Science is all around us we’re always told. From the shampoo you use first thing in the morning, to the computer you’re surfing the net with right now and the toothpaste you use last thing at night. Well now the UK Science Council has taken that saying to its logical conclusion and begun mapping science companies, organisations and even individuals all across the UK and the rest of the world. The aim of the Hidden Science map, the Council says, is to show anyone interested, particularly school children, just how much science is going on all around them.

Science is everywhere!

The Science Council says that the reason science is ‘hidden’ in this instance is that many science, engineering, technology and maths jobs just don’t get the recognition they deserve. They set out to change this by giving the public a way of visualising all the research and scientific work going on around the country. This, they hope, will inspire school children to become the next generation of scientists, inventors, engineers even, dare I say it, chemists.

Hidden science currently has more than 1,000 organisations, institutes and people listed, including the Royal Society of Chemistry, and aims to reach 5,000. So get involved and put your pin in the map.
